Behind the cockpit alongside Ukrainian pilots. Ukraine has had plenty of experience for combat flight due to Russia's original invasion into Ukraine in 2014 (if this is news to you, check out our about on the website to read up on how this Russian invasion started). NATO runs complex training protocols to prepare for unknown combat situations, which includes low altitude flying. Ukraine has perfected that technique and regularly flies sorties between 50-100 meters (NATO typically doesn't drop below 200 because the risks are too high below that). They fly so low (and fast) that Russian jets and air defense cannot keep up. And it seems all of Ukraines high risk approaches really pay off, they have been so successful that Russian pilots continue to be afraid to fly in Ukrainian airspace. All of this is all the more reason why it breaks my heart the US hasn't started training Ukrainian pilots to fly out jets so we can get them better equipment. Right now, Russia's one major advantage is their jets are more advanced and so can fire from longer distances. The increased lethality of Ukraine if they had more modern jets would make a difference
